The Key to Curing Insomnia with Martha Lewis
We had the pleasure of having Martha Lewis on the OMG Show this week and she is talking about all things sleep! As a sleep consultant, Martha originally started out her own business helping parents of newborns get their babies to sleep through the night. She had a baby herself that was waking up every hour and she struggled to find a way that she could get him to sleep. After meeting with someone who came up with a sleep plan for her baby, he was soon sleeping soundly every night.
Martha, however, was still having insomnia and started to dive deep into what was causing her restless nights. She took a certification to figure out how she could help herself and ended up switching her business focus to helping adults suffering from insomnia (particularly, a lot of entrepreneurs!). When it comes to entrepreneur, we tend to want to burn the candle at both ends. If you’re just starting out on your own business, you usually have a lot of sleepless nights and this can set the tone for having insomnia. We can’t expect to wake up and hit the ground running unless we can get a peaceful night of sleep. Insomnia has only developed within the past few centuries, with the creation of the light bulb really spurring its existence. The focus on productivity has started seeing sleep as a waste of time because we’re able to be up all night and be connected. Blue light has begun to have an even bigger effect because it suppresses our brains natural creation of melatonin, so more and more people are finding themselves unable to fall asleep at night.
