The Benefits of Practicing What You Preach
Are you practicing what you preach? We live in a world where you can pick and choose what images you want people to see. You can rent a ridiculous mansion and claim it to be your own. You can show up in whatever way you choose to show up online and be a completely different person behind the scenes.
I have for many years, worked diligently to practice what I preach in all areas of my life. While this can be a scary proposition for some, it is actually very freeing when you decide this is the way in which you want to live.
I have made a commitment to myself, my business and my community that this is how I want to live. I test new marketing strategies out on myself before anyone else, I embody the values of my business by living them, I own up to my strengths and weakness and so much more.
I have a client who is also doing the same and I love seeing him live his passion and I can see with great specificity how over time this will impact and inspire his community tremendously. He does it daily in spite of any fears that may arise along the way.
So let’s talk about practicing what you preach and the importance of it today.

The benefits of practicing what you preach. The other day I was chatting with a client of mine in our business ecosystem builders program and he coaches architects and he helps them really live in purpose and alignment and integrity and really find that passion again and help them really just, you know, live their best life because the, you know, kind of where they’re at is not where they intended to be.
And so we really helps them, you know, uncover their true passions or true desires and really bring their work life and their personal life and their family life back into integrity. And I shared this with you because he is such a prime example of practicing what you preach. And I think it’s so important because what he is doing is he’s living abroad and he’s going to be basically living abroad for the next year and a half. And that is something that he’s always wanted to do. And it’s such a cool thing because he can take his community along with him on this journey of being abroad and living his passion and doing all the things that he is telling his clients to do. And for those of you who followed along on my journey, I couldn’t agree more. And part of the reason why I love this is because I am a huge fan of practicing what you preach because if you aren’t like embodying the philosophy and the vision and the mission and the core values of your business and yourself, clients and prospects and your community can really pick up on that.
And you know, it’s really kind of scary when you first start to put yourself up online and put yourself out there and there’s a lot of fear and this mindset work that needs to be done. And potentially you could have like lots of self limiting beliefs around that. And it is something that is a big challenge for many. And so what happens is they kind of put this, masks these masks on and they become robotic and therefore they aren’t as authentic and they’re pretending to be somebody that they aren’t necessarily at their core. And I am a huge fan of embodying that next level version of yourself. So I’m not saying don’t do that. I absolutely am saying embody that next level version of yourself, but don’t put on a mask. And part of the reason why I say this is because I really pride myself on practicing what I preach.
I always in all areas of life, but especially in business, and one of my mottos this year is I work less and I earn more, which is something that I’m doing. I am actively working less and really scaling things and automating things and really just leveraging my time so I can grow and scale the company and I am delegating to my team. I’m not just like, Hey giving them tasks, but I’m actually asking them to take ownership over the tasks that I am giving to them. So why do I bring this all up? Well part of the reason why I bring it all up is because you have to practice what you preach both in business and in life. And I truly believe when you’re out there and you’re setting the example of Hey, you know, exercise and self care are really important to being able to show up as the best version of yourself.
And they are then when you are doing that and you can document that if you feel so called to and share that with your community, you are leading by example of the things that they should be doing. And I’m just using examples from my own world. Like one of the things that we are testing is Pinterest ads. I’m testing Pinterest ads cause I want to see how they’re going to work. I truly believe Facebook ads are going to change this year and so I want to make sure that people are leveraging, you know, other types of paid ads and I want to test myself on that first. I never ever test clients out on that stuff and by test like I’m going to test for, you know, three to six months before I start recommending these things for clients and come up with a proven strategy to ensure that it works.
Now I don’t always test for six months in all areas, but I always am the one to throw myself into the deep end of the pool and really figure out what’s working, what’s not working like one of the other initiatives that we’re going to start doing is live streaming. Is it something that I’m looking forward to necessarily? No, because it gets to be on camera and be on camera is not necessarily one of my favorite things to do and I’ve released a lot of baggage around that. But sitting in front of a camera, sharing with everybody what I’m doing is not necessarily my favorite thing to do, but am I going to do it, am I going to test it and am I going to try it? Absolutely. Because I want to see if there is a benefit to it and maybe there’s not a benefit to me to do it, but there might be a benefit to one of my clients to doing that.
So I share this with you guys because you know when you’re not living in that alignment with, Hey, you’re saying this one thing and you’re practicing another like kind of behind the curtains, it can be really, really scary and I have had the privilege to be behind the scenes of some really big companies in the online space and I’ve seen this complete out of alignment, newness that happens. You know, someone will show up online in this one particular way and then you go behind the scenes and you realize that this person is completely different, right? They are completely insecure. They’re completely unsure. They’re completely like not who they’re exposing to be and therefore they are giving out advice that either they themselves have not necessarily experienced or they are just like doling out advice like shooting from the hip because that’s the information that they have or that’s what they believe is the right thing to do.
And so I share this because I think that it’s really, really important to a talk about B, when you are contemplating hiring somebody or joining a group program or spending money with someone or investing in someone to help you grow your business. Perhaps it’s a coach, perhaps it’s a program. Perhaps it’s a course. Make sure and do your due diligence to ensure that that person is everything that they expose, that they are practicing what they preach, that the techniques that you see and hear and have them tell you about are actually the things that they’re doing in their own business. And same thing goes on the personal side. If someone’s saying, Hey, you should be exercising and eating healthy and yada yada yada, but they aren’t actually, you see them posting like, you know, pictures of them at like McDonald’s or whatever. Um, be mindful of that.
Right? So any time that there’s those inconsistencies. And I’m very strategic so I like kind of just like red flag, all these things kind of naturally in my brain. But I recommend doing your due diligence when you go to hire someone, when you go to work with someone. I have, like I said, I’ve been fortunate enough to be behind the scenes where I’ve actually witnessed this, Hey, here’s the persona that comes up online and here’s the person that’s the reality that’s behind the scenes. And it’s like, you know, it’s completely two different people. It’s like, here’s this movie star and then here’s this little kid almost that’s behind the scene. And I don’t say that to be negative. Um, I just say that cause that is the reality that’s out there. So do your due diligence and really like ask for referrals. Like dig a little deeper, like do some research.
And you know, I’ve been on both sides of this. I’ve hired people that have not expound like they expose to be one thing and they’ve turned out to be another. I’ve worked for people who are like this and I’m sure at some point in my career I have done one thing and not been in alignment with what I’m saying. And I think we all have like we’re human. But what I’m encouraging you to do today is take off that mask, take off that shell that you feel like you have to be somebody completely different and really just own who you are and be confident in that. And you know, like I said, it can be scary to put yourself out there in the online world, but so oftentimes people are more concerned with themselves and the things that they have going on in their own world than they are with me and you and you know the things that I’m saying, right?
Like they’re more concerned with themselves than they are with you. And so I just share that with you because I think that there’s been a lot of kind of chaos going on in the online world and I really think there’s going to be a lot of quote unquote influencers out there that kind of get exposed this year. So I encourage you to just practice what you preach, be like my client, be in integrity, be in alignment, practice and preach the things that you say that you’re going to do. You know, he could just say, Hey, I’m going to travel abroad someday and I’m going to live abroad and I’m going to do these things. No, no, no. He’s doing it. And that’s very inspiring to his community and it’s inspiring to the people he’s working with and it makes a huge difference. And so I just share that with you because I think it’s a really important topic to talk about.
